Jessie Reyez is burnt to death in "Body Count" music video

Jessie Reyez released the music video for music video for her song "Body Count". In the video Jessie Reyez is taken captive and is on her way to be burnt to death while a crowd of people are watching. The video is directed by Peter Huang and filmed in her hometown of Toronto. It is an empowering video in which Jessie Reyez examines how women through the eras have paid the price for injustice and gender inequality.

Jessie Reyez apparently violated some societal standard and is dragged across a field to be burnt at the stake. She writhes against her captors and i shauled toward her fate while singing about freedom, love, self-love and independence.  Jessie Reyez co-produced "Body Count" together with Babyface and Khristopher Riddick-Tynes. The sweet, acoustic musical vibe of "Body Count" is juxtaposed against the dark backdrop and belies the deeper context of the song. The lyrics challenge double standards of sexual freedom. It is a great song with powerful lyrics and an even more powerful video. Watch it here below.
